what makes a classic kitchen look?

Before we go, let’s take a quick look at the essential elements of a classic kitchen.

First, let’s talk about the colours. A traditional classic kitchen relies on light neutral colours with white, being the preferred choice in many homes. Yet, some definition with light greys and occasionally dark blues, even purple, can be used to accentuate your space.

Next come the materials. A timeless classic look goes hand-in-hand with natural materials, such as wood, marble and glass. Wood, of course, is often the dominant feature, due to its warm and inviting colour.

Last but not least, simplicity is key. A traditional kitchen is often plain and flexible in its origin, so that it allows for flexibility in the addition of homeware and personal touches over time. Also, a simple design never goes out of date. It easily fits in with your daily life and becomes an irreplaceable part of it.

what is a shaker kitchen

The concept of a Shaker kitchen has appeared multiple times when speaking about our 1909 range. However, unless you have had the chance to dip your toes into the world of kitchen designs, you might be unfamiliar with the term.

A Shaker kitchen is defined by its characteristic minimalism and linear aesthetics. In this aspect, it is closer to the modern kitchen design rather than the traditional kitchen. Interestingly, the style traces back to an 18th-century religious sect which preached simplicity in life, hence the restraint in details and the focus on practicality. However, the Shaker-style has since evolved to become a preferred option for those who love elegance, simplicity and, of course, wood.

what is a modern kitchen after all?

Historically speaking, what we call a modern kitchen design first emerged around the WWI and has kept its original core elements to this day. The modern kitchen design is minimalistic and angular. It features very little ornamentation and incorporates geometric forms in the decoration.

The textured look of wood combined with the traditional, defined kitchen units of a classic kitchen has been replaced by flat smooth surfaces and built-in kitchen appliances for a sleek, smooth look.
